Creative Process

Session 1: My life story, my roots

In this session, participants engaged in a 30-minute stream-of-consciousness writing exercise to reflect on life moments that shape who they are, with a focus on migration, identity, and belonging. From these reflections, they selected moments to keep, transform, or release.

The session continued with artistic exploration through papier-mâché and collage, turning personal stories into creative expressions of change and resilience.

Session 2: Exploring metaphors and Designing Our Luggage

Participants explored the metaphor of luggage—what we carry, what shapes us, and where we grow from. Drawing inspiration from memories and imagination, they designed and built 3D luggage sculptures using paper templates and simple materials.
This creative process transformed personal reflections on migration into tangible forms, symbolizing resilience and vulnerability.

Session 3: Seeds & Assembly

In this session, participants reflected on the question “What do you want to grow?” by choosing seeds as personal metaphors for growth, healing, and future possibilities. They embedded seeds into their papier-mâché structures, adding layers that symbolize resilience and transformation.

Through this process, the act of layering became both artistic and symbolic—mirroring the ways we carry experiences, build strength, and envision what we want to cultivate in our lives.

Session 4: Imagining Growth, Sharing Stories

In the closing session, participants personalized and completed their luggage sculptures, adding final details and written reflections or “seed poems” about what they hope to grow. Together, they documented their creations through photos and shared in a closing circle—planting hopes, celebrating growth, and honoring their collective journey.
