Welcome to Voices of Self-Love,

a celebration of creativity, self-expression and community

Voices of Self-Love was born from the desire to connect with our communities— to create a space where women could explore, share, and embrace the powerful theme of self-love.

What began as a journey to celebrate self-love soon evolved, as we found ourselves having conversations around belonging, identity, and the complexities of migration. In this exhibit, you’ll encounter portraits of women who came to Vancouver in search of better opportunities and faced significant challenges, as well as those who have planted roots here, having navigated the long and winding road of adaptation.

Migration is a journey that reshapes us. We leave behind pieces of ourselves when we step away from the familiar, searching for new places to call home. Every art session of this project was intentionally designed to encourage personal reflection and foster a deeper connection with the self.

We read poems by Mary Oliver, allowing her words to touch our hearts, and created abstract emotional art in response to affirmations that helped us reconnect with our inner strength.

The preliminary art sessions were about creating a sacred space for these connections to unfold. Today, we are happy to present the work of twelve talented artists who have taken these stories to heart and transformed them into meaningful artwork that speaks to the resilience, courage, and beauty of each individual journey.
