Project Description

Perceptions of Dual Identity was a community engaged art project that had the objective to reach the Latin American youth living in Vancouver and encourage them to reflect on what it means to be Latin American and Canadian through a series of art and creative writing workshops.

This project was designed in two parts: the first part consisted of a series of 5 community engaged art workshops in which participants were invited to explore the question of what it means to be Latin American-Canadian.

The second part consisted of the art exhibition "Yo soy yo y yo estoy aquí" (I am here and I am me), talk back, and celebration in which the work created was showcased."

Through this project, participants:

  • Shared their identity stories: What does it mean to be Latin American-Canadian?

  • Gained skills in painting and creative writing to share their story and what it means to be Latin American and Canadian.

  • Connected with other community members through a series of art workshops with the goal of strengthening community connections.
