Ana Lorena Lopez and Maria Helena Morales from Cacatua, shared stories from the Latin American region. We enjoyed the puppet session and made art together. Claudia Lopez facilitated this workshop in which kids used their bodies to explore, play, and connect with their environment using music from the Latin American region. Art in the Square - Sonidos del Sur July, 2021

On July 22, Nairy Arellano and Eduardo Lucastegui took us on a Latin American music adventure. We learnt new songs, sang and played instruments together. The idea of this activity was to spark kids’ curiosity for Latin America through music. This workshop was funded by the City of Vancouver's 2020 Community Arts Grant. Pequeñ@s Explorador@s - August 2019

With this event, we used the Spanish language in a playful way while encouraging local exploration and connectedness between individuals. This activity engaged more than 20 families, including young children, in an outdoor urban adventure in False Creek. With this event, we witnessed our communities fill the air with Spanish singing, chanting, and speaking.

Storytelling from Home - August and December 2020

In a time of social distancing, "Cuentos en Familia” encouraged families to share their favourite books in Spanish without having to leave their homes. Storytelling through video was a great opportunity to strengthen ties between families and across our communities.

Tricoter - August 2020

Led by dancer and choreographer Julie Lebel, this outdoor program welcomed newcomer families to dance with their children in creative ways. This introduced playful and creative exploration of developmental movement patterns, engaging parents in their own dancing just as much as the children. 

This event was made possible in partnership with Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House and funded by SFU's Student Community Engagement Grant.

Creating with Nature - October 2020

Led by writer Silvana Goldenberg, this was a hands-on outdoor workshop for newcomer families with young children to experience the foundations of writing their own story together.
