Memories for the Soul

Photography is a tool for weaving memories of what was experienced, felt, and perceived

Project Description

Memorias para el Alma or Memories for the Soul was a community-engaged art project that provided a safe space for Latin American women to express and develop their memories about the past, present, and future through the process of photography in various formats and concepts.

Objectives:

  • The workshop connects the participants with their stories. First, the past situation allows them to process the beautiful and difficult experiences shared with others, as well as with different places or objects, in the selection of this moment what is most important to remember is the life with others. This connection is part of the time that has been lived.

  • Second, the experience with the desire involves aspects of life for which there is no physical proof, and this idea is expressed through its materialization, such as a photo, a painting, or a song. Only photography has the power to connect the memorie with the character and the situation, in different ways. The proposal is to turn oral storytelling into an object for a memorie.

  • Finally, the  important moment with the image is when the women transform the sense of pain and absence in all the moments of life in the past through colour and beautiful moments.
