Welcome to Voices of Self-Love,

a celebration of creativity, self-expression and community

Project Description

Voices of Self-Love was divided into two phases. Phase 1 focused on gathering and sharing the stories of our participants, serving as the creative spark for Phase 2. In this second phase, Latin American local artists brought these stories to life by painting the participants’ portraits.

The purpose of Voices of Self-Love was to explore the theme of self-love through a series of creative writing, painting, and photography workshops. The program was designed with inspiration from the four pillars of self-love: Acceptance, Appreciation, Nurture, and Transformation.

The second phase involved an artist call-out, selecting 12 talented Latin American artists who deeply connected with these stories and transformed them into meaningful artwork. Their pieces capture the resilience, courage, and beauty of each individual journey.

Objectives:

  • The project centered the voices of women living in Vancouver who were seeking growth, learning to love themselves better, and connecting with both themselves and the city.

  • Through a series of interviews and creative writing exercises, participants shared their stories of self-love.

  • A professional photographer captured a portrait of each participant.

  • A portrait painting was created for each participant, reflecting their story.

  • The project aimed to empower participants by providing opportunities to connect with themselves and other women who were experiencing a similar journey of self-love, connection, or struggles.

  • The works were exhibited at Britannia Art Gallery.
